Boaters

This is why you bought a boat!

What a great way to celebrate Christmas with your family, have a company party or a class reunion. Get your family and friends and decorate that boat in the Christmas spirit. If you own a boat this is a blast!

All boats are required to register in order to participate. You can also register in person at Delcambre City Hall or day of event. We are starting the parade this year in Lake Peigneur. Please be in the water for 5:00 which is the first bridge opening; Second bridge opening is 5:30; Final bridge opening is 6:00. Proceed to Lake Peigneur and anchor along the bank or idle in the big hole. When you see Pipe Dream II, a 60' barge enter the Lake, he will turnaround and the parade is starting. Just get in line when you can and maintain spacing of at least 100' After you pass under the bridge, veer toward the grandstands and slow down so the people can cheer you on and the judges can get a good look at you.

Call 337-349-0229 for more info or with any questions.

ATTENTION SAIL BOATS: The clearance under the rail road crossing is 43' - so we would love to have you in the parade if you can make it under!

Attend the Captain's dinner meeting on Friday December 5th at 6:30 to get event instructions. We will contact you with details and directions.

  • Get as creative as you like with lights and decorations

  • Sing and Cheer loudly - this is meant to be an extreme fun event
  • Boaters are strongly urged to dock their boats early. The dock in Delcambre will be closed at 4:30 p.m.
  • Event volunteers will direct you to the staging area after you dock your boat
  • The Sheriff will be there to lead the parade and enforce safety
  • There is a strict no-wake rule in effect
  • Please be attentive to the event volunteers in the water providing instructions so that everyone can enjoy themselves

POWER SUGGESTIONS from Jim at Hi Tech Automotive in New Iberia:

These are just a few suggestions for wiring decorative lighting on boats. I strongly recommend a generator but these tips may help when one is not available. These suggestions are for the use of low wattage Christmas lights and are only rough figures. Exact figures would be based on type of lights, battery, inverter, etc.

An example would be using 1000 low amperage lights, a 500 watt inverter, and a 600 cold cranking amp battery, the fully charged battery will last about 2.5 hours. Inverters come in a variety of wattages. I used the 500 watt inverter as an example because this is the wattage I used last year. Some boaters use the charging system from the outboard to recharge their batteries. I suggest not doing this as most outboards do not charge well at idle. I suggest using a separate battery for your lights.

On a safety note, please keep all lights from touching the water. Salt water is a very good electricity conductor, and can cause electrical shock if wires or lights come in contact with it. Please make sure all lights are circuit protected with either fuses or breakers. Safety is the most important part of boating fun.

Everyone please enjoy and we look forward to seeing you there!
